Exhibition Honoring Military Medics Opens in Makhachkala Ahead of Victory Day

MAKHACHKALA, May 6 – RIA "Dagestan." An exhibition titled "Mercy in War: The Red Cross 1941–1945" has opened at Makhachkala's House of Friendship ahead of Victory Day, honoring military medics, nurses and volunteers who saved wounded soldiers.

According to Dagestan Red Cross head Raisa Shakhsinova, the organization trained approximately 300,000 sanitary squad members and medics, whose efforts saved more than 17 million wounded soldiers. She emphasized the importance of sharing this history with youth, noting that medical college students and schoolchildren are invited to the exhibition in hopes of inspiring future careers in medicine and humanitarian service.

Saida Yarakhmedova, Deputy Head of the House of Friendship, added that the exhibition aligns with the institution's tradition of hosting thematic events for Victory Day. She also noted a historic principle established during the war: Red Cross staff and volunteers provided assistance to all wounded individuals regardless of which side they fought for. The opening included a guided tour detailing the work of wartime sanitary squads.
