MAKHACHKALA, April 24 – RIA "Dagestan." Dagestan will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Gadzhi Gamzatov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), following a decree issued by the Head of the Republic on December 10, 2025. Muslim Telyakavov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan, chaired a meeting of the organizing committee responsible for preparing and conducting the anniversary events.
Gadzhi Gamzatov, an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation and the only RAS academician in the field of philology in Southern Russia, will be honored through a comprehensive program of ceremonial, scientific, educational and cultural events.
According to Telyakavov, the celebration plan includes open lessons, thematic exhibitions, flower-laying ceremonies at the scholar's monument, international scientific conferences and roundtable discussions. Special emphasis will be placed on producing television and documentary films, publishing special editions and organizing literary flash mobs and creative competitions.
Philological Olympiads for schoolchildren and university students, along with popular science lectures, aim to draw younger generations' attention to Gamzatov's scientific and cultural legacy. Commemorative events are also planned in Khunzakhsky District, the hometown of the esteemed academician.
Implementation of the approved action plan starts in April 2026 and will continue throughout the year, ensuring a sustained tribute to one of Russia's most distinguished philologists.
